bankruptcy Questions
- What do you charge for a bankruptcy?
- Am I going to lose my house or car?
- Will I ever get credit again?
1. What do you charge for a bankruptcy?
Answer: It all depends on the facts of YOUR case. In MA, a seasoned lawyer charges about $ 2,000 plus costs for a Chapter 7. In RI, the attorney fee is closer to $ 1,500. If your case isn't complicated, I'm happy to reduce the fee. I don't believe in charging high fees for easy cases. Explain your situation and I promise to quote you a fee that is fair and affordable.

2. Am I going to lose my house or car?
Answer: During your free consultation, I'll show you a list of property that can be protected under State and Federal Bankruptcy laws. The laws are quite generous and most clients never lose property in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. We'll consider all of your property and then take steps to maximize protection. Having filed thousands of cases, I've never had a client lose a house or car, when they stayed current with their payments.

3. Will I ever get credit again?
Answer: Well, once the mountain of debt disappears, your debt to income ratio should improve substantially. Banks and credit card companies then consider you a better risk to loan money to. By monitoring your credit reports after the bankruptcy, you are well on your way to reestablishing credit.
